Klassiek@West: Phoenix Ensemble

De Italiaanse klarinettiste Letizia Maulà en de Italiaans-Duitse celliste Sylvia Cempini spelen werken van Mozart, Beethoven, Leo Smit, Poulenc en Connesso.

Na hun studie in Rotterdam te hebben afgerond, richtten de Italiaanse klarinettiste Letizia Maulà en de Italiaans-Duitse celliste Sylvia Cempini het Phoenix Ensemble op. Door hun toewijding voor de muziek, de verscheidenheid van hun repertoire en de mogelijkheden binnen deze formatie, die uit drie totaal verschillende kleuren, geluiden en uitdrukkingen bestaat, creëert het Phoenix Ensemble een bijzondere en levendige concertervaring. New Phoenix ensemble wijdt haar uitvoeringen ook aan onderzoek naar componisten die niet konden worden gespeeld en gaf ze een nieuw leven; in het programma zijn er twee stukken van Zikmund Schul en Leo Smit: beiden zijn omgekomen tijdens de Holocaust.

Het duo wordt regelmatig uitgenodigd om op te treden in Italië, Duitsland en Nederland. Sinds 2018 werd Phoenix Ensemble groter en werd het een collectief van muzikanten met toevoeging van de viool, evoluerend in New Phoenix Ensemble.

After finishing their studies in Rotterdam, the Italian clarinetist Letizia Maulà and the Italo-German Cellist Sylvia Cempini founded the Phoenix Ensemble. Through their commitment to the music, the variety of their repertoire, and the possibilities within this formation, which comprises three completely different colours, sounds and expressions, the Phoenix Ensemble creates a special and vibrant concert experience. New Phoenix ensemble devotes its performance also researching composers that couldn’t be performed and giving them a new life; in the program there are two pieces by Zikmund Schul and Leo Smit: both of them perished the Holocaust.

The duo is regularly invited to perform in Italy, Germany and The Netherlands. Since 2018 Phoenix Ensemble got bigger and became a collective of musicians adding the violin, evolving in New Phoenix Ensemble.
